Ethiopia is adopting electronic electoral system in the next elections, according to the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), FBC reports.
The board said this is part of fundamental reform measures going on in the country to widen the political landscape.
Board Communication Director Tesfalem Abay told The Ethiopian Herald that the Board has launched tests to apply Biometric Voters’ Registration System (BVRS) that can help increase voters’ trust and create transparency during the election process.
Recently, Ethiopia’s Election Board held consultative discussions with political parties for free, fair and democratic election by the end of next year, he noted.
The government has established a committee consists of higher officials and representatives from political parties, Tesfalem added.
According to him, similar BVR system was used in Zimbabwe elections, with good results.
