Heavy battle erupts in Barawe over local council election

Heavy fighting erupts in Barawe district of the Lower Shabelle region on Wednesday morning.

The battle is between security forces of the Southwest state and armed clan militias in the town.

Reports say that the militia protested against the formation of a local council in the town.

The situation is still tense, and most of the city’s commercial and transport activities have been shut down.
