Hirshabelle president extends condolences to families of MPs killed in blast
The President of Hirshabelle state, Mohamed Abdi Waare has extended his condolences to the families of state government officials who were killed in explosions on Wednesday.
The state security minister of Southwest regional state, Abdikadir Abdirahman Baraf and Hirshabelle lawmaker, Ahmed Abdi Farah Kabaweyne were killed when a roadside bomb struck their vehicle along Mogadishu-Afgooye road.
“I was horrified when I heard the death of the MP Kabaweyne and his colleague. Kabaweyne has played very important role in the formation of Hirshabelle state, On behalf of Hirshabelle people, I send my heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the MPs,” Waare said.
Kabaweyne has been the office since the formation of Hirshabelle region.
The explosion also killed two bodyguards of the officials, according to Wanlaweyn district commissioner, Mohamed Sidow Abdirahman.
Al-Shabaab has claimed the responsibility for the attack. In recent days, Al-Shabaab fighters have increased their attacks against the government and AMISOM troops.
Since the beginning of this month, the group carried several attacks in Benadir, Lower and Middle Shabelle.
