Military court jails two for robbery, attempts to kill a soldier in Mogadishu

Two men were sentenced to five and eight years in jail Tuesday by a military court in Mogadishu after they were found guilty of robbery and attempt to kill a soldier.

Two men were sentenced to five and eight years in jail Tuesday by a military court in Mogadishu after they were found guilty of robbery and attempt to kill a soldier.

The Court of First Instance sentenced Abdikadir Abdi Jama to eight years while Abdirizak Mohamed Abshir was handed a jail term of five years after they confessed to forcibly robbing people of their belongings using pistols.

The court held that the two used pistols to conduct robberies in various parts of the city. Jama admitted to attempts to kill a soldier in Hodan district while adding that he did so in company of another suspect not before the court.

He noted that they owned pistols which they used to rob people in Wadajir district.

The second suspect, Jama told the court his only role was to use his auto-rickshaw for drive-away purposes after the commission on an offence.

The third suspect, Mohamed Abdulkadir Mohamed Omar was acquitted for lack of evidence linking him to the offenses.
