Opposition political parties will attend the upcoming national leadership meeting bring together the Federal Government and Federal Member States to deliberate and adopt a viable electoral model for the upcoming elections.
Information Minister Mohamed Mareye announced Saturday the meeting will incorporate various stakeholders to ensure inclusivity and representation of all sectors of the society.
“The upcoming Dhusamareb conference is different from previous ones and will be attended by all stakeholders in the country including the leadership of the two houses of parliament, the country’s political parties, regional administrations as well as civil society organizations and will be a comprehensive conference.” Mareye said.
The attendance of political parties is a marked difference from previous engagements which has only involved leadership of the Federal Government and Federal Member States.
The meeting expected to kick off August 16 will be reviewing proposals from a technical committee formed last week by the FGS and FMS leaders meeting in Dhusamareb. Puntland, HirShabelle and Jubbaland have since appointed representatives to the committee.
The electoral commission NIEC announced last month a universal vote will not be feasible this year calling for up to 13 months to deliver the poll. The Dhusamareb talks are expected to strike a compromise deal to ensure elections are held in time.
