Security forces seize weapons, arrest Al-Shabab suspects in Mogadishu
Security forces in Mogadishu Monday arrested three Al-Shabaab suspects and seized a cache of weapons.
Security forces in Mogadishu Monday arrested three Al-Shabaab suspects and seized a cache of weapons.
The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said its Dufaan military wing unearthed the weapons which included mortar shells from a bunker operated by Al-Shabaab in the Suq-Hoola area in Huriwaa district in northern Mogadishu.
“Our forces arrested several al-Shabaab fighters and seized a cache of weapons following security operations in Suq-Hoola village,” NISA said in a statement.
It added that the agency received a tip-off from members of the public of the hidden weapons.
The operation comes amid increased Al-Shabaab attacks in Mogadishu.
At least eight people were killed and 17 others injured last week in a bomb attack at Hodan district which Al-Shabaab said targeted a UN convoy.
