Former Lower House Speaker of the Somali parliament, Sheikh Aden Madobe, announced Wednesday that he would run for speaker of Somalia’s 11th parliament.
He told local reporters that he has a lot of experience in that role and wants to restore the house’s prestige.
Madobe was just elected to the Lower House following an election in Baidoa. He said he would resign from his position in his political party if he were elected as speaker.
Madobe becomes the first Member of Parliament to officially announced his candidacy for parliamentary speaker, but other lawmakers are expected to announce their candidacy in the coming days.
