Somali Defence Minister Urges Troops To Defend The Country

The newly appointed Somalia’s Minister of defense Mohamed Mursal has called on the national army soldiers to defend the country from the Al Qaeda-linked Al Shabaab militants.

The newly appointed Somalia’s Minister of defense Mohamed Mursal has called on the national army soldiers to defend the country from the Al Qaeda-linked Al Shabaab militants.

Mursal said the Federal government of Somalia is committed to paying the salaries and basic needs of the armed forces fighting against Al Shabaab.

The minister urged the troops in double their efforts in bringing peace and stability to the country that has been beset by decades-long conflict, piracy, and terrorism.

The remarks of the Minister of Defense comes days after the United States of America has announced it is cutting food and fuel support for the Somali army over graft allegations.

The US has been providing assistance to the country’s armed forces for years and carrying out airstrikes in Somalia, in a bid to help in the war on Al Shabaab.
