Somali government to probe cause of death of small fish along Halane base in Mogadishu

Somali government is investigating circumstances under which small dead fish was washed ashore in Halane Camp in Mogadishu.

The Ministry of Fisheries Director General Mohamud Sheikh Abdullahi told the media the ministry was probing what caused the death of the small fish species which is commonly used by fishermen as pawns.

According to Abdullahi, small dead fish species locally known as eydi was washed ashore around Halane area which houses the AMISOM and Somali army bases but were not located in other places.

The government official said the ministry will conduct tests to establish the circumstances under which the fish died.

Somalia issued out first licenses for fishing companies early 2019 following many years of illegal and unregulated fishing which is still ongoing in Somali waters.
