Unidentified gunmen have killed a Somali MP in the Somali capital, the latest in string of attacks targeting the country’s legislative body members, officials said Saturday.
Osman Elmi Boqore was assisinated by two gunmen in Karan district, north of Mogadishu.
Witnesses told that the attackers escaped the scene. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, however, it carries the hallmarks of Al-Shahab group.
Somalia’s security officials said investigations were underway as security forces moved to pursue the attackers. Hon. Boqore is the first law maker killed this year in Somalia.
Al-Shabab fighters stepped up attacks across Somalia since the group was ousted from the capital and key strongholds including the lucrative Kismayo town.
The group have carried our series of deadly attacks including suicide attacks and drive-by shooting targeting government officials since last year.
