Wadajir Party leader and former presidential candidate Abdirahman Abdishakur has sensationally claimed the gunfight at Mogadishu jail which killed at least 10 people Monday was a covert operation by the intelligence agency NISA to free some convicts.
Without substantiating his claims, Abdishakur who has been at loggerheads with the government claimed NISA officials had planned to free Al-Shabaab militants from jail.
“Don’t mislead the public, this was conspiracy. What happened in Mogadishu prison was orchistrated by NISA, the plan was to free al-Shabaab operatives from the prison,” Abdishakur said in press conference .
Justice Minister Hassan Haji said Tuesday the government will thoroughly investigate the circumstances under which a convict acquired a gun and bring to book those who were responsible for securing the arms.
Unconfirmed reports indicated the convict who was later shot dead by security forces had snatched a gun from one of the guards and went on a killing spree.
