Police in Mogadishu said Saturday they had arrested two Somali National Army personnel for the shooting dead of two siblings in Mogadishu.
According to the police, the two were nabbed following an operation in the city since Thursday night when they two, a brother and sister were shot dead.
“Somali police have succeeded in apprehending the suspects who were involved in last night’s shooting which caused the death of Zakariye Mohamud Hussein and Sowda Mohamud Hussein. The suspects, Abdiwael Moalim Aden and Dayah Nur Abdi Aden is currently in custody and will be arraigned in a court,” the statement read in part.
The police vowed that they take action against the armed bodyguards who used guns to ease traffic jams, urging the public to cooperate with law enforcement.
“The Somali Police is committed to protecting the lives and property of Somali people, and we urge the public to remain vigilant. work with the Somali Police Force, ” the police said.
Zakariye and Sowda were killed after soldiers in a military vehicle fired to clear a traffic jam.
The victims were reportedly out to get some food for a relative who was undergoing treatment at a city hospital when they were killed, sources said.
Sources confirmed that the vehicle escaped the scene.
Security forces in Mogadishu have previously been accused of opening fire on autorickshaws in Mogadishu on traffic.
