U.S. airstrike killed two Al-Shabaab militants and injured three others in Lower Shabelle region, Southwest of Somali region.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) said the airstrike also destroyed a vehicle.
The Mission noted that the attack took place in Mubarak village which lies 67 kilometers southwest of Mogadishu.
“US forces conducted airstrikes against Al -Shabab on the morning of March 19 near Mubrak, Somalia, killing two terrorists, wounding three terrorists and destroying one vehicle,” reads the statement.
The statement affirmed that U.S military will continue its collaborations with Somali forces and the continental troops in the fight against the militanst.
“U.S. forces will continue to use all authorised and appropriate measures to protect U.S. citizens and disable terririt threats. This includes partnering with AMISOM and Somali National Security Forces ( SNSF) in combined counterterrorism operations and tergating terrorists, their training camps and their safe havens throughout Somalia and the region,” the Mission assured.
U.S airstrikes against Al-Shabaab militants have been stepped up since early last year when the administration of President Trump approved expansion of military operations in the Horn of Africa nation.
