Armed men shot dead a famous poet and traditional elder, Badal Jama Hirsi, on Monday evening as he left a mosque in Mogadishu’s Kaxda district.
“Two young men armed with pistols shot him in the upper body, and he died on the way to the hospital. The gunmen shot him before breaking his fast”, said the anonymous witness.
No group has claimed responsibility for killing the famous poet and traditional elder Badal.
Security agencies in the Kaxda district have begun a security operation to search for the shooters behind the killing.
The President of Galmudug State of Somalia, HE Ahmed Abdi Kariye, has expressed his condolences over the death of the poet Badal Jama Hersi. He added that poet Badal was one of the peacemakers in Galmudug and has always been a champion of peace and state-building efforts in Somalia.
The killing of the poet comes hours after eight people were injured following an Al-Shabab mortar attack that targeted fired the parliament building in Mogadishu.
